Imago-Informed Coaching

A structured way of talking that helps couples truly hear each other — often for the first time in years — and understand why the same old wounds keep getting triggered between you.

Imago Relationships Certified

I’m a coach, not a therapist. Imago Relationship Therapy is the clinical name for this method — I’ve trained in it and bring its most powerful tool, Imago Dialogue, directly into my coaching work with couples.

The Approach

Most Fights Aren’t About What You Think They’re About

They’re about two people talking too fast to actually hear each other. Imago is built on slowing that down — deliberately, on purpose — so each of you can truly speak and truly be heard, instead of reacting, defending, or shutting down the way old patterns pull you to.

The approach itself is built on a simple but powerful idea: we’re often drawn to partners who unconsciously echo the people who shaped us earliest — our parents, our first caregivers — both their best qualities and their unhealed wounds. That’s not a mistake. It’s an opportunity: your relationship is trying to finish something old, and the very things that frustrate you most in each other are often pointing to exactly what needs healing.

In Practice

How Imago Dialogue Actually Works in Session

Mirroring

One partner speaks; the other reflects back exactly what they heard — no interpreting, no defending, just genuinely receiving it.

In session: “What I hear you saying is…” — and for many couples, this is the first time in years either of them has felt truly listened to.

Validating

Understanding that your partner’s experience makes sense from where they’re standing — even when it’s different from your own.

In session: “That makes sense to me, given…” — a small sentence that quietly disarms years of built-up defensiveness.

Empathizing

Reaching for what your partner might actually be feeling underneath their words — and letting them know you see it.

In session: “I imagine you might be feeling…” — the moment where couples often stop feeling like opponents and start feeling like a team again.
