Facing The Storm Together

Holding It All Together

You Don’t Have to Carry This Alone

A diagnosis — yours, your spouse’s, or your child’s. Caring for an aging parent while raising your own family. The empty nest, when the house goes quiet and you’re not sure who you are together anymore. Whatever season is testing your marriage right now, you don’t have to weather it as two people quietly falling apart alone in the same house.

An ongoing circle for couples learning how to hold each other — and themselves — through life’s hardest seasons.

Is This You?

You Don’t Have to Say It Out Loud. I Already Know.

  • One of you got a diagnosis, and now you’re both living inside it — fear, appointments, treatment, and a future that suddenly looks different than the one you planned.
  • Your child was diagnosed — with cancer, with autism, with something that will shape the rest of your family’s life — and somewhere in caring for them, the two of you stopped caring for each other.
  • You’re caring for an aging parent — the calls, the decisions, the guilt — while trying to still show up for your own marriage and family, and something has to give.
  • The kids are gone, the house is quiet, and you’ve realized you and your spouse built a life around raising them — and now you’re not sure what’s left between just the two of you.
  • You’re both trying to be strong for the other one, and it’s left you each grieving alone in a marriage that used to hold everything together.
  • You want to be each other’s safe place through whatever this season is, but you don’t know how anymore.

A major life transition — illness, caregiving, an empty house — is a crisis and a grief, even when no one else calls it that. This circle exists because you shouldn’t have to face it alone, and neither should your marriage.

The Circle

What Changes When You Stay

You Grieve Together, Not Apart

A diagnosis is a loss, even when there’s hope, even when there’s a full recovery ahead. As a Certified Grief Coach, I help couples honor that grief together instead of each carrying it silently, alone.

You Learn to Ask for What You Need

Illness makes couples “manage” each other instead of loving each other. You’ll learn how to name what you actually need — comfort, space, help, honesty — without guilt.

You Protect the Marriage, Not Just the Crisis

It’s easy for a marriage to become only about the diagnosis. This circle makes room for the two of you to stay a couple, not just two people managing a health crisis together.

You’re Known By Others Who Understand

A small, closed group of couples who are genuinely living something similar — not people offering platitudes, but people who understand the particular weight you’re carrying.

How the Circle Works

The Details

Format
Biweekly, 90-minute virtual sessions — guided conversation, real sharing, and practical tools for staying connected through crisis.
Who Attends
Couples — both partners together. Whether the diagnosis belongs to you, your spouse, or your child, you attend as a pair.
Group Size
A closed cohort, kept small on purpose, so every couple is genuinely known — never a crowd.
Structure
Closed cohorts run together for a full season so real trust can build. New cohorts open periodically.
Where
Virtual, from wherever you are — no travel, no added logistics on top of everything you’re already carrying.

“A diagnosis is a grief. So is watching your children leave home. So is losing a piece of your parent while they’re still here. Whatever the season, it deserves to be honored — and you deserve not to face it alone.”

— Debbie Rivera, Certified Grief Coach

Where This Grief Work Comes From

This circle draws on my full body of grief work at Loss Into Light, where I lead grief coaching, retreats, and circles built around a simple truth: grief and healing hold hands, not opposite ends of a line. If you’re carrying grief that reaches beyond your marriage too, that’s where I’d love to meet you as well.
